ROGER E. PEDERSEN — KEEPER OF THE DEAL

R.E.P

"Every SuperPower has a price. Every price has a story."

— THE CREED OF THE SERIES

Roger E. Pedersen is the visionary author behind the Sci-Fi, dystopian SuperPower book series — a unique blend of high-stakes drama, immersive world-building, and interactive gameplay. His work stands out for embedding three optional games in each book, where readers identify referenced films, books, or music, readers get a point for each answers identified.

EARLY LIFE AND CAREER

Pedersen's writing journey began after facing life-altering hardships — losing his job, home, and car, and enduring homelessness in a New York City shelter. Despite these setbacks, he channeled his resilience into research and storytelling, inspired by the question: "If you had one SuperPower, would you choose to fly or become invisible?" This led to the creation of SuperPower: The Ability to Fly or to Become Invisible: The Deal of the Art (Book #1).

Before becoming a full-time author, Pedersen was a top computer game designer and developer in the 1990s, leading multidisciplinary teams to innovate gameplay systems and narrative branching for award-winning titles. He holds an advanced degree in Computer Science Software Production, which underpins both his narrative design and interactive mechanics.

WRITING STYLE AND THEMES

Pedersen's approach to storytelling is distinctive — he often writes the first and last chapters of a book, linking them with dynamic, standalone vignettes akin to TV episodes. His narratives explore art, humanity, and resilience, with themes of ethical dilemmas, personal transformation, and the value of art as a timeless investment. He is known for meticulous research, from measuring distances in museums to studying Michelin-star menus, to ground his dystopian sci-fi universe in reality.

ACHIEVEMENTS AND INTERESTS

Pedersen has been recognized with honors such as "Who's Who in Computer Science" and "Who's Who in America". He is also a US Chess Life Candidate Master, competing nationally and applying his strategic mindset to both chess and storytelling. Outside of writing and gaming, he enjoys cruising on Carnival ships, visiting theme parks, and watching blockbuster movies.

VISION

With a background in technology and a passion for imaginative literature, Pedersen continues to push the boundaries of interactive fiction, aiming to shape the next generation of sci-fi and dystopian narratives where readers' choices truly matter.

In short, Roger E. Pedersen's biography is one of perseverance, creativity, and innovation — blending the worlds of game design and literature to create a genre-defining series.

(NAME THE FILM)

What movie line is the most quoted by Brando? (Chapter 14)

At the Evangelical Lutheran Church, the President of Iceland waits for the wedding processional to arrive so he can oversee it. The members of the 'Golden Eagle' Organization start filling the church pews. Myrena tells Stormy that her mother died years ago and that she had hired an elderly actress to pretend to be her mother. She tells her that, like Maggie Carpenter, played by Julia Roberts, she is on the verge of skipping out on her wedding since the Professor refuses to stick to his agreement and promises regarding her leadership. As the organ plays, the manipulated Professor Steele walks her actress-hired mother down the aisle, and then Apollo waits to escort Stormy Weather. Alone, he passes by the filled church of 'Golden Eagle' members. He and Rocky stand before Iceland's President, who is officiating. Myrena and her maid of honor, Stormy, do not appear. All the seated wedding guests turn around, looking for her to enter. Apollo whispers, "Your 'Pretty Woman' has vanished, becoming a real 'Runaway Bride.'"

The wedding scene hides two Julia Roberts–Richard Gere films. Name the two actors who headlined both, and the film titles.

Apollo calls Myrena "my Pretty Woman"
Maggie Carpenter is the runaway bride before she marries
the stars of both films
Rocky remarks, "Bond would say that's 'A View to a Kill'" as he laughs. Apollo tells the two halves of Hera, "Live and Let Die, bi-otch." The upper part of Hera remarks, "'You Only Live Twice'" as the top half of her magically reconnects. Hera says, "You boys have witnessed that my body has bonded back together, having me regenerate to 'Die Another Day.'"

Four James Bond film titles are hidden in the Hera assassination scene. Name them.

Rocky's comment on Hera's outfit
Apollo's line to the two halves
Hera's retort as she reconnects
Hera's regeneration announcement
Colette tells Stormy over the intercom, "Like my friend Glinda always says, 'You Wicked Witch, tell the Golden Eagle members that you have no SuperPower here before some DODGE friend of mine with the SuperPower of flight drops a Victorian house on you. And that's not rubbish.'" Colette's SuperPower ability causes Stormy to descend, falling over 1,000 feet as her threatening deluge of hailstones suddenly stops, allowing the targeted aircraft to pass her.

Glinda, "You Wicked Witch," "you have no SuperPower here," and a house dropped "on you" — which legendary fantasy story is quoted (and spun) here?

Myrena, still wearing her fifteen-carat diamond engagement ring, stares straight into the two ladies' eyes and says, "If you ever need any help, my services are available at your request." Stormy asks the ladies to show them the jewelry. Both engaged ladies extend their left hands, showing off their large diamond engagement rings. Myrena jokingly says, "'Frost yourself,' and make sure you keep the ring bearer," as they all begin laughing. Stormy says, "We are in a members-only private Michelin three-star restaurant, so let's all remain with composure and be happy for the ladies whose husbands have afforded them large, shiny, pure carbon." After the sommelier has placed Dom Pérignon in front of each of the ladies, Myrena raises her glass, saying, "Let's toast true love, which I have heard is 'the soul's recognition of its counterpoint in another.'" The rest of the group raises their glasses, clinking them together as they sip the finest champagne, which has hints of coffee cream, vanilla, and subtle spices.

Myrena says "If you ever need any help, my services are available at your request," tells the ladies to "Frost yourself," to keep "the ring bearer," says "let's all remain with composure," then toasts "the soul's recognition of its counterpoint in another." Name the films these five famous lines quote.

Kate Hudson: "Women of New York — frost yourselves!"
Rachel McAdams' champagne toast on true love
the Ring-bearer who must keep the One Ring safe
Andie Anderson (Hudson), writer for Composure magazine — "remain with composure"
"Let's toast true love" — the soul's recognition of its counterpoint in another
